This post is completely unrelated to theological discussion or even philosophy, I just thought I’d share a cool creative piece for anyone out there interested. I was bored today and while I was watching some YouTube videos with cool ocean animals, I began to think how similar the crypto market is to the ecosystem within our oceans. Here is the result of around an hour of some interesting thoughts while writing.
Compared to regulated environments of FOREX and the stock market exchange, the wild wild west of crypto doesn’t have a start and stop date, and is the literal ocean, 24 hours 7 days a week of unregulated danger within the darkest depths of the ocean. At the surface, you have small fish, the retail investors who follow fundamental news which hints at future price action, but most likely are following FOMO and the media driven narrative of the time. They take their positions based on such news, and as a result, like most small fish, they get swallowed alive without even knowing what swallowed them. Often times, it is big whales, the market makers who are driving markets. Through sophisticated trading algorithms, decades of trading experience, and along with the emotional grit they’ve developed over the years, those who become whales don’t become whales for nothing, and they lie deeper in the ocean, their mouths ready with preset limit orders… taking liquidity through sell and buy walls, for example, by forcing bidders to raise the price of their bids so the sell orders fill their buy orders, and then dumping their preset (and now filled orders). Not all whales are bear whales though, some are bull whales too.
Indeed, the vast ecosystem of the ocean is filled with all sorts of life, from the small to the big. Jellyfish, the arbitragers, moving little by little, waiting for the right moment, and then boom, they devour the exchange price inefficiencies. The tiger shark, found in many tropical and temperate waters, an aggressive player who thrives on options, waiting for that big prey. Shrimp, the common folk that travel in packs, perhaps like the retail investor, they go with the flow and with the pack, FOMO. The dolphins, those algorithmic calculators who love to strategize on automation and calculation of real-time data, the analytical mind.
Not only does this vast ocean have a variety of species, each with their own strategy of survival, different species have different temperaments too. The scalper, a highly reactive shark who thrives on stress, making the instantaneous decisions on too pounce or not to pounce. The stingray, a day trader who is not too slow yet not too fast, preferring a balance of planning and instinctive judgment. The turtle, a swing trader who slowly but surely, gobbles up the little moss, profiting slowly but surely.
Of course, once in a while you see a species with its unique strategy, not fitting in with any of the others. The Sakhalin Sturgeon. … The Red Handfish. … The Adriatic Sturgeon. … The Tequila Splitfin. … The Giant Sea Bass. But for the most part, species are recognized and travel in groups. Life in the crypto ocean is hostile, and the nature of the market is always poised to take your life at any moment, should you ever be not careful.
Deep in the depths of the darkest ridge within the marianna trench lie the mythical kraken, a horrific monster of such size that is instills terror in all who dare be in its presence. The inside trading executives of exchanges, the true manipulators of the market, all knowing of the market(cause they manage a section of it), and greater even in size than the blue whale, even a minute movement from them shakes the ocean. I hope I never meet these creatures who lie in wait within the abyss, yet at the same time, I wonder where legendary satoshi fish resides.
I dare not venture beyond the warm shallow waters of home… for now at least. What fish will you become?
